Ross Estate Vines
The Ross Estate vineyards are located in the
Southern Barossa Ranges of the world famous Barossa Valley,
1 km outside the historical township of Lyndoch.
At approximately 110 acres, the vineyards unfold across sprawling
undulating hills.
The site receives an average rainfall of 525mm per
annum with most of this falling in autumn and winter.
The growing season finishes warm to hot, particularly through
mid to late summer, which enables us to have an earlier harvest.
The soil consists of varied top soils with light fine structures.
There is grey to brown loams over red clays, sandy gravel over
red clays and river silts over clays, hence the poorer soils contribute
to the high flavor and extended palate structure of the wines.
In addition to this all dry matter is composted for fertilizer and
water from the winery is recycled for irrigation.
The varieties grown on the estate include Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Tempranillo.
The red varieties are grown on the north facing slopes
which enables the grapes to bask in glorious full sunshine creating
full bodied wines with generous flavors and rich colors.
The white varieties which are grown on the southern slopes
and flats receive cooler weather from gentle gully breezes resulting
in intensely flavored fruit suitable for delicate wines. All our whites
are picked in the cool of the night and transported immediately
to our onsite crusher to retain color and freshness.
